GRO: Battle for the Petri Dish

Index
GRO Home...

Turn 1

Red places a token on point A.  This is the only time Red may move a token from his reserves directly onto an open point in the dish.

Blue places a token on point B.  Like Red's first move, this is the only time Blue may move a token from her reserves directly onto an open point.
  Turn 1

Turn 2

Red chooses to grow the small germ (1 token) at A.  He stacks a token from his reserves on top of the small germ to make it a medium germ (2 tokens).  The small germ needed 2 or more liberties to grow.  A liberty is an orthogonally adjacent open point, and the small germ had 4 of them before growing.

Blue grows her small germ at B to become a medium germ. That germ also had 4 liberties, so the move is quite legal.
  Turn 2

Turn 3

Red decides that his medium germ (2 tokens) at A will divide.  Red moves a small germ (1 token) from A orthogonally to point C and leaves a small germ (1 token) at A.  The medium germ needed 2 or more liberties before dividing, and it had 4.  The small germ needed 1 or more liberties after moving, and it had 2.

Blue divides her medium germ at B, and moves a small germ diagonally to point D.  The medium germ needed 2 or more liberties before dividing, and it had 3.  The small germ needed 1 or more liberties after moving, and it had 3.
  Turn 3

Turn 4

Red grows his small germ at A into a medium germ.

Blue grows her small germ at D into a medium germ.
  Turn 4

Turn 5

Red divides his medium germ at A, and moves a small germ diagonally to point E.  Because E is one of the 6 points in a goal zone, and Red is the only player with germs in that zone, Red controls that goal zone.  The first player to control 3 of the 4 goal zones, wins.

Blue divides her medium germ at D, and moves a small germ diagonally to point F.  Now the small Red germ at C has no liberties, and it dies.  Red removes the token at C and returns it to his reserves.
